Village meeting
By law, every Parish in England must hold a Parish Meeting. It is held for the benefit of the local government electors registered for the area in which it is held, who are all both entitled to, and welcome to attend. It is convened by the Parish Council and is presided over by the Chairman of the Parish Council.
It is held annually and by law must be held between 1 March and 1 June.
Parish Councils are permitted to change the name of this event from the Parish Meeting to the Village Meeting, as yours has chosen to do. This reflects the local nature of the concerns dealt with during the meeting. It is held for the residents of Claygate and will deal with subjects that concern them.
A notice, asking for agenda items, is posted on the village notice boards and website about three weeks prior to the meeting.
This is the meeting where the Public sets the Agenda and gets to ask the questions and raise the points that they feel are important.
An agenda showing the time, date and venue is posted 7 days prior to the meeting.
There is always an open forum where members of the electorate may discuss any issue.
